Team status

Our team played the previous match after a short break in the Super League, which divided the first and second rounds of the championship. During this time, the blue and white managed to defeat the Football Academy from Tambov (6:1) in the 1/8 Winline of the Russian Cup, played for the national teams, rested a little and returned to training to begin the second round of the Super League with a match against Krasnodar.

A team that Dynamo has never lost to, or even lost to. All three previous meetings ended with the same score – 2:0 in favor of Dynamo. It was only possible to partially repeat the success in match No. 4.

Despite the three-week pause in the championship, there were still some losses in our team. Kristina Komissarova, who left the training camp of the Russian national team early, could not help the club either - she was left out of the lineup for the game with Krasnodar. This is not the first time this season that Yulia Bessolova took her place in the center of defense, and Lamunat Mustafaeva came out on the edge of the attack, exactly in Komissarova’s place. Otherwise, the blue and white starting line-up looked familiar.

The Dynamos also started the game as usual: cautiously themselves and without giving much freedom to their rivals. True, this tactic could have failed already in the 8th minute, when Krasnodar striker Arina Shuba shot right at the crossbar of Diana Ponomareva’s goal. Krasnodar repeated this trick in the second half. But in both cases, the Dynamo team was incredibly lucky!

But our guests were also lucky. Like, for example, in the 26th minute, when Elena Shesterneva, who had previously aimed at shots from a very short distance, finally got the opportunity to shoot from a working distance - the ball passed dangerously close to the far corner of Natalya Silina’s goal.

It should be noted that in the first half hour of the game the Dynamo team looked better: they created chances, did not allow them to approach their goal, and played under pressure as if the hot weather was not bothering them at all. But our girls lacked precision in the final stage. That’s why the teams went into the break with zeros on the scoreboard.

It would, of course, be unfair if such a game ended without goals scored. The housewives of Novogorsk would be most upset by such injustice. And they did everything to prevent this.

In the 53rd minute, tall Helena Bozic took a corner kick from Elena Shesterneva and, bending down from her height, shot straight into Silina’s goal so that she didn’t really have time to react – 1:0!

Further, with courage, Sergey Lavrentyev's charges could and should have consolidated their advantage, but instead, the blue and whites several times risked running into a return goal, fortunately the Krasnodar team created chances for this. At these moments, the main hero of the Dynamo team was Diana Ponomareva, who looked impressive not only thanks to her new hairstyle, but also her confident play - both on the exits and on the goal ribbon. Thanks also to her, Dynamo ultimately retained the victory in this match, especially in the hot ending of this match.

No matter how close both teams were to goals, everything was decided last Sunday by one goal scored by Dynamo’s central defender from a set piece.

— On the eve of the match, I said that Krasnodar is a tough team, and the game turned out exactly like that. We could have removed all the questions by forgetting the moments that we created at the end of the meeting. Then the ending would have been less nerve-wracking. Apparently, we just love to overcome difficulties.

We started the second half more actively, created several dangerous chances, earned corners, free kicks, and scored a goal. Then Krasnodar made the game extremely simple through long takeaway passes, and it is always difficult to act against such tactics. It’s good that we scored from a set-piece, but it would have been better to score from the game, — coach Sergey Lavrentyev, head of the Dynamo Football Club, summed up the coaching results of the winning match.

After a tense game, the blue and white goalkeeper and one of the main characters of the meeting with Krasnodar, Diana Ponomareva, shared her emotions:

— The first half was calmer. So let's say we looked closely at each other. In the second half, after scoring a goal, Krasnodar began to play with one touch, hitting behind the back, which was difficult to cope with.

The most difficult moment of the game was the last free kick, because it was close, and Polina Organova took it well. I understood that it was already the end of the match, and if there was a goal, it would be a draw, which we did not need at all.

Dynamo's final advantage of one goal, in principle, clearly reflects the course of the match, although there could, of course, be much more goals scored. And both in one and the other direction. But the main thing is that the blue and white took their points and, as it seemed, returned to the top three for a while. But our team’s main rival for a place in the top three, Lokomotiv Moscow, did not win its match with Rubin Kazan and thereby “left” Dynamo in third place.

If Dynamo were lucky in this round, they were lucky until the very end.

About the opponent

The next opponent of the blue and white is WFC Rostov. The club from the south of Russia was formed only a year earlier than our team, in 2020, but immediately became a participant in the top division of the Russian championship.

In the debut season, the team from Rostov-on-Don took 5th place in the Super League (11 wins, 6 draws and 10 losses), and reached the 1/8 finals in the Russian Cup. The next season was even more successful for Rostov: Natalya Karaseva’s team made it into the top four (final 4th place) and reached the 1/4 finals of the Cup, where they lost to the future tournament finalist and Super League champion Zenit.

In the previous 2023 season, the Rostov team also reached the quarterfinals of the Russian Cup, where they lost heavily to the Perm Zvezda 2005 (0:3), but in the championship they showed their worst result over the years of existence - the Rostov team did not qualify at the preliminary stage of the Super League in the top six teams and was unable to continue the fight for medals. However, at the final stage 7-12 “Rostov” became the best, taking the final 7th place in the championship.

In the off-season, changes took place in the coaching staff of the Rostov club: instead of Natalya Karaseva, who had led the team since its founding, the post of head coach of Rostov was taken by Igor Gavrilin, who worked at the Ryazan-VDV last season. And, by the way, he is no stranger to Dynamo - in the 90s he played for the blue and white, including the main team.

Due to the peculiarities of the current Super League regulations, the Rostovites missed the first round of the new season, so the championship for them began only on March 16 - and immediately with a match with the current champion Zenit. Despite the home field, Igor Gavrilin’s team could not hold back the onslaught of the blue-white-blue at the end of the meeting and conceded two goals, starting the season with a defeat (0:2). Then two more defeats followed, including a home defeat to Dynamo (0:1), and only in the 4th match from the start of the season did the Rostov team finally win their first victory - over Enisey in Krasnoyarsk.

However, the successful streak lasted only two matches (in the next round they beat Chertanovo - 4:1), and then Rostov fell into a new, even longer tailspin: in 8 matches the Rostov team won only one victory, and tied once and suffered 6 defeats. The most sensational thing happened in Samara - there the southerners lost to Krylia Sovetov in a penalty shootout in the 1/8 finals of the Winline Russian Cup and left the tournament in the first round.

On July 1, Igor Gavrilin left the team, and the post of head coach was taken by Yana Chub, who had previously headed the Rostov youth team. Yes, it was under her that the team from the banks of the Don lost to the Samara “Wings” and flew out of the Cup, however, the young specialist had practically no time to prepare the team. Now the new head coach of Rostov had almost a month to work with the team - the Rostov team missed the tour after a pause between rounds. So, in fact, we will see the updated Rostov only now, in the match with our team.

At the moment, Rostov is in 11th place (out of 13 teams) with 10 points: 3 wins, 1 draw, 8 losses, goal difference 10-18.

By the way, an interesting fact: as in the previous match with Krasnodar (1:0), the blue and white will play against a team that they have never lost to and from which they have not yet conceded a single goal. True, unlike Krasnodar, Rostov took points from the Dynamo team - last season just in Novogorsk (0:0).

Another statistical fact in favor of Rostov: this season the Don team only scores points on the road. Just for clarity: at home – 0 points in 6 matches, away – 10 points in 4 games.

To be fair, we note that Dynamo plays at home with almost no chance for its opponents. So, in Novogorsk this season the blue and whites lost only to CSKA and Zenit, drew with Chertanovo, and won all other matches.
