Team status

In the 12th round of the Super League, our team played another historic match for itself. True, this time it concerned not only our team, but also our rivals. For the first time in the history of Russian women's football, Dynamo and Spartak met each other at the highest level. Before this, the blue-white and red-white met only at the youth team level (the score in personal meetings there was 1-1).

The first historical derby took place on Spartak's home field in Sokolniki and was left to the hosts. In general, an equal game in the first half did not bring goals to either team, although the red and white were closer to it: in one of the episodes, the ball after a shot by Kristina Cherkasova hit the goal post of Diana Ponomareva and only miraculously did not cross the line. In addition, Vadim Kozlov’s team had several more real opportunities to open the scoring, but in some places Ponomareva’s selfless play saved the day, and in others Dynamo were lucky. As, for example, in the moment with Spartak’s goal in the 34th minute, which was canceled by the main referee of the match Kristina Dushkova due to offside.

However, the Dynamo football players also had their moments. Just look at Milena Nikitina’s cannon shot under the crossbar in the first minutes of the match, which was saved by Elizaveta Shcherbakova. By the way, in addition to Nikitina’s start, it should be noted that Jose-Diana Pamen Tchato and Fauzia Najemba, who had not played for a long time, returned to the field and finally recovered from injuries.

Well, almost immediately after the break, the Spartak team still achieved their goal: in the 50th minute, Spartak’s main striking force in the attack, Natalya Mashina, responded to Marina Fedorova’s serve and literally brought the ball into the empty corner of the Dynamo goal at the far post. Paradoxically, this goal remained the only one in a match in which both teams had several excellent chances to score.

True, unlike the first half of the game, in the second half the Dynamo were no longer so dangerous near and inside the Spartak penalty area. It was more likely that the hostesses could increase the score than the guests could even it out. Even a desperate attempt to play in someone else’s penalty area and Diana Ponomareva, who ran to the Spartak goal for a corner kick already in added time to the match, did not help our girls.

— We didn’t succeed in many things. Making so many simple turnovers on simple passes and running without the ball the whole game is always difficult. Of course, we are no longer newcomers to the Super League, unlike Spartak. We have experienced players who have played at a high level and become champions. But that's how this game turned out.

We need to figure it out, I don’t rule out that excitement played a role, because everyone wanted to win and understood the significance of this match, head coach of the Dynamo Football Club Sergei Lavrentyev shared his view of the team’s performance.

Blue and white defender Kamilla Abashilova was also brief after the final whistle; after coming on as a substitute, she became one of our team’s best players on the field:

— In general, we lacked aggression; we did not fully comply with the coaches’ instructions. And most importantly, there were not enough scoring chances, and those that were created could not be converted. The girls are still great, but we still need to work and correct our mistakes.

Of course, the defeat in the derby seriously worsened Dynamo's position in the fight for the championship; now the gap from CSKA, which is still undefeated this season, is 11 points. However, you definitely shouldn’t despair. Sergei Lavrentyev’s team retains a good chance of winning the first Super League medals in its history: there are only three points ahead of third-placed Lokomotiv, and 6 more points from Zenit, but there are still two more head-to-head matches ahead.

Another event of this week, which, of course, became a new page in the history of our club, is the resignation from the position of head of sports projects of Alexander Udaltsov, the man who stood at the origins of the Dynamo women's football team, which will be three years old this December. With the direct participation of Alexander Alexandrovich, the blue and white won silver medals in the Youth League in their first season, and in their debut season at the highest level they took 5th place in the Super League. And they continue to develop today, proving that it is possible to compete even with the top clubs of Russian women's football.

— In December 2021, the Dynamo Housing and Physical Culture project appeared. We started with the Youth League, collecting players, coaching staff and staff from scratch. Since then, a lot has changed, now the main team represents the letter “D” in the Super League, and the Academy has more than 200 students.

I thank the management of the Dynamo football club, the fans, everyone who contributed to the development of our project, everyone who believed in us at the very beginning. I am sure that the future will only become bigger and more interesting. I am sure that Dynamo Sports Club has great potential, — Alexander Udaltsov addressed the fans and team with his farewell speech.

About the opponent

The next opponent of the blue and white is Kazan WFC Rubin - the main outsider this season.

Despite the fact that the team from the capital of Tatarstan was founded back in January 2021 and immediately became a participant in the top division of the Russian women's football championship, it has not yet achieved any significant success:

- in the debut season, the Kazan team took last place, winning only two victories in 27 matches and showing the worst goal difference - 8-76. But at the same time we reached the 1/4 finals of the Russian Cup.

- in the 2022 season, Rubin was able to improve its tournament position: the Kazan team took 6th place at the preliminary stage, and finished in 9th place in the fight for 5-10 places. The fate of the club in the Russian Cup was dramatic: in the 1/8 finals of the tournament, Rubin was supposed to play with the Ural-URFA team, but due to technical problems with the plane, the Kazan players were unable to fly to Yekaterinburg, as a result of which Rubin was counted out technical defeat (3:0).

- last season, volzhanki experienced a disaster: at the preliminary stage they suffered 16 defeats, drew 4 times and won only 2 victories, taking 11th place and ahead only of Samara “Wings of the Soviets”, who looked even worse. At the final stage in the fight for 7-12 places, the Kazan team could only win once and draw once, remaining in the final 11th place.

In the Russian Cup, the “ruby” were defeated in the 1/8 of the tournament by Lokomotiv Moscow (0:3) and ended their journey at the same stage as Dynamo.

In addition to gaming problems, the Kazan team also experienced serious organizational and personnel problems. So, for example, their match of the 19th round of the Super League against Lokomotiv ended in a scandal: Rubin head coach Dmitry Nechaev was able to field only 7 players for the home game, the minimum number allowed according to the championship regulations, and a field player took his place in the goal! The defeat from the railway workers (0:6) was predictable.

In the new season, the Kazan team was led by a new coaching staff led by 39-year-old Mars Sakhabutdinov, and the roster was noticeably updated. A large group of football players left the team: Veronika Anisina and Kristina Cherkasova (both Spartak), Valeria Khokhlova (Zenit), Tatyana Dronova (Chertanovo), Albina Fomchenko, Maria Proshina and Natalya Nurmieva. But it was replenished by Elizaveta Sevko (on loan from Zvezda 2005), Nuria Ulyanina (Ryazan-VDV), Alina Shcherbo and Yana Benkevich from the Belarusian championship, as well as several football players from the Rubin youth team.

Unfortunately for fans of the Kazan club, all these changes did not affect the results. Yes, the “ruby” defeated Moscow region “Master-Saturn” (2:1) in the 1/16 of the Russian Cup on the road and advanced to the 1/8, where they will fight with the Moscow “Chertanovo” at home. But in the championship, things are very bad for Rubin: 9 defeats in 9 Super League matches, including defeats from Lokomotiv (0:3), Zenit (0:6), Ryazan-VDV (0: 4), “Spartak” (1:4), “Krasnodar” (1:4) and “Rostov” (0:3), the worst goal difference in the league (5-32) and the natural last place in the standings .

With such meager luggage, the Kazan players are approaching this year’s first meeting with Dynamo Moscow, which has not yet experienced any big problems with the club from Kazan.
