Team status

In the previous round, our team also played in our native walls of Novogorsk, where we received guests from Kazan - WFC Rubin. While the main outsider of the season arrived at the game with the blue and whites with zero in the “victory” column and the same zero points, plus the worst goal difference in the league - everything indicated that the Dynamo team had a good chance of breaking the losing streak. which she suffered in the derby with Spartak and CSKA (both with a score of 0:1).

Not to say that Sergei Lavrentyev’s players showed some incredibly confident play, although the final score (2:0) seems to indicate this. In fact, the Dynamo team, in fact, decided the question of the winner in the first half, scoring two goals, and in the second half they calmly played against the opponent and did not force the events themselves. It should be noted that the goals were scored by Fauzia Nazhemba, for the first time since returning to the lineup after injury, and Elina Samoilova, who beautifully sent the ball from a free kick.

Also from the important details of the last meeting: Arina Taranchenko and Lamunat Mustafaeva, who did not receive much playing time in the main team, were in the starting lineup for the match with Rubin, respectively replacing Diana Ponomareva in goal and Kristina Komissarova on the left flank of the attack. As a result, 21-year-old Mustafaeva, who joined Dynamo this off-season, played 67 minutes and played her 4th match at the highest level, and 17-year-old Taranchenko chalked up her 4th shutout in the Super League. Keep it up, girls!

But Komissarova, like central defender Ksenia Kubichnaya, were unable to take part in the game by decision of the team’s medical staff; their participation in the next match with Zenit is also in question, which, of course, could add headaches to our coaching staff. Irina Dricheva, who will definitely miss several more matches, also continues her recovery after surgery.

Following the results of the match, the head coach of Dynamo Football Club Sergey Lavrentyev himself drew attention to the inexpressive play of his players in the second half:

— We treat every opponent with respect. And while dismantling Rubin, we understood that it would not be an easy walk. In addition, before this game we had two defeats in a row, and defeats that seriously moved us away from the first lines of the standings. To return to the highest places, to where we were just recently - what other motivation is needed?

What is the reason for such a pale game that we showed after the break? This is the problem we are trying to solve. Just during the break, they reminded the players of the match with Zvezda 2005, when we also led 2:0 before the break, and then came out poorly. Today the same story happened again. Until we turned this situation around with substitutions, there was nothing good in our performance in the second half.

Despite the outsider status with which Kazan Rubin came to Novogorsk, it was unacceptable to relax even with such an opponent. This was confirmed after the game by Blue and White defender Mariya Galai:

— I think it’s a natural situation when the losing team is more aggressive in the second half and rushes forward to score. Therefore, somewhere this affected our game. However, we did great, we were one and dealt with all the difficulties, and the score was on the scoreboard.

Of course, it was unpleasant after two defeats in a row, but this should not affect the results in the next games. We need to go out onto the field and get out of this situation. We do this, including thanks to our fans, who do not abandon us.

Although the victory over Rubin did not allow the blue and white team to return to the top three teams in the championship, overall the results of the 13th round turned out to be very favorable for Dynamo. All the team's main competitors for a place in the top 3 lost points, and they did it in the same way: in the matches Spartak - Lokomotiv and CSKA - Zenit zero draws were recorded!

Thus, at the end of the round, the blue and whites slightly broke away from the pursuing Spartak, and approached the leaders of the standings: only one point from Lokomotiv, 4 from Zenit, 9 (+ game in reserve) from CSKA.

In the next round - that same Zenit, a meeting with which will decide a lot for our team.

About the opponent

The next opponent of the blue and white is WFC Zenit, the current two-time champion of the Super League (2022, 2023) and a finalist in the last three (!) Russian Cups (2021, 2022, 2023), as well as the winner of the country's Super Cup (2023).

The club from St. Petersburg began its history on January 21, 2020, when it was announced the creation of a women's team within the Zenit football club. Immediately after its appearance, the women's Zenit was included in the Super League participants.

In the first season, the blue-white-blues took only 5th place and reached the 1/4 finals of the Russian Cup, but then they were no longer left without medals. In the 2021 season, Zenit won its first bronze medals in the Russian Championship and reached the Cup final, where it lost to Lokomotiv Moscow (0:1) with a minimal score. Well, last season the St. Petersburg team became the champion of the Super League and again reached the final of the Russian Cup. True, they lost it again - this time to CSKA (1:2), and the final match was essentially a home match for Zenit, as it took place at the Gazprom Arena.

The 2023 season became even more successful: despite losing the Russian Cup final for the third time in a row (and again to CSKA - 1:4), the team from St. Petersburg, under the leadership of head coach Olga Poryadina, added two more trophies to their collection - first the National Super Cup (5 CSKA was beaten :4 on penalties), and then the Super League gold medals. By the way, the St. Petersburg team took the championship for the second year in a row in a bitter struggle with the capital’s CSKA.

It is possible that the struggle between the two top clubs will continue this season. At least, both clubs declared their ambitions from the very start.

There is almost no doubt that the struggle between the two top clubs will continue this season. We can say that we have already seen the first round of this confrontation: on June 8, CSKA defeated Zenit in the Russian Super Cup match (1:0), and did this at the St. Petersburg club’s home Gazprom Arena.

Both clubs also declared their ambitions in the Super League from the very start: CSKA and Zenit are the only teams that have not suffered a single defeat in the championship. The teams could have deprived each other of this last zero in the previous round in a head-to-head meeting - but the match at the army VEB Arena ended with zeros. So both teams continued their unbeaten streaks.

So far, Zenit’s biggest loss in the off-season has no effect on either the performance or the points scoring schedule. The top scorer in the entire Super League last season, Portuguese Ana Dias (18 goals in 25 matches), decided not to renew her contract with Zenit and left the Russian championship. The blue-white-blues also parted with a large group of Russian football players: Ksenia Oleksyuk, Zarina Sharifova, Maria Koptsova (all from Chertanovo) and Lyubov Ovsyanikova (Yenisey) went on loan.

For entry the team received 5 football players from Super League clubs: Alena Andreeva (Chertanovo), Olga Chernova and Maria Alekseeva (both CSKA), Valeria Khokhlova (Rubin), and, of course, the main acquisition - Nelly Korovkina, who missed the previous season due to the birth of a child, and this off-season left Lokomotiv Moscow, where for several seasons she became the top scorer not only of the team, but of the entire championship. One of the main stars of Russian women's football has already played 7 matches for the new club and scored twice.

But in any case, the current Super League champions have a powerful squad and are unlikely to experience serious personnel problems in the upcoming game with Dynamo. As we remember, this season our team was finally able to break the winless streak in games with clubs from the top 3, defeating Lokomotiv Moscow at home in March (3:0). But if our girls interrupted the series of meetings with the railway workers in brilliant style, then ending the same unpleasant story of matches with the club from St. Petersburg will probably be much more difficult. The fact is that the blue and whites cannot yet not only beat the team from the banks of the Neva, but even score against them.
