Team status

In the previous round, Sergei Lavrentyev’s team hosted one of the main outsiders of the season in Novogorsk – Samara “Wings of the Soviets”. Dynamo, which was third in the standings before the start of the tour, seemed not to have any serious problems in the game with the team from Samara, and even on their own field. However, reality turned out to be not so predictable.

Yes, the score 3:1 may seem more than convincing, but by the way the match itself went, you can’t say that it was an easy victory for Dynamo. If only because our team finished the first half not only with a minimal advantage in the score (Kailan Williams scored a quick goal in the 6th minute), but also without one of its key players. Fauzia Najemba was injured at the end of the first half. How serious the damage turned out to be can be judged by the fact that the attacker was unable to leave the field on her own, but only with the help of the blue and white medical team. This was the end of the difficult first half.

In the second half, the fate of the match was turned in a winning direction for her team by the one who was entitled to it by her status - captain of the blue and white Yulia Bessolova. First, the midfielder clearly headed in Maria Digurova's cross from the left flank, and then, after a super pass from Tijana Matic, she sent a beautiful parachute into the Samara goal, making the score 3:0 and eliminating all questions about the winner of the match. Which, by the way, could have arisen if the captain had not made his double.

At the very end of the match, the Samara players still won one goal back, not only depriving Arina Taranchenko of her well-deserved “cracker” in the Super League, but also breaking the three-match streak without conceding a goal. It turned out to be offensive, as Vitaly Shadrin, the goalkeeping coach of the Dynamo Football Club, said after the match:

— We had an inexpressive first half, played with big gaps. It was not possible to play aggressively as planned. In the second half we had already restructured, the team fulfilled the instructions that we asked of them.

It's a shame that we conceded in the last seconds, because overall the game didn't go in such a way that Krylya Sovetov should have scored.

One of the heroines of the meeting, defender Maria Digurova, who assisted Bessolova on the second goal, also agreed with the coach:

— We didn’t come out completely collected for the first half, we were very sluggish and moved the ball slowly.

In the second half, the coaching staff made adjustments and pointed out our mistakes. So we came out more concentrated and realized the chances that we had. There could have been more goals, but the score is what it is, so there is something to work on. We need to work on our mistakes and prepare for the next game.

We will find out how well the work on the mistakes was done in the next game in Krasnoyarsk, but for now we have recorded four wins in four matches since the start of the new Super League season, a goal difference of 9-1 and a clear third place in the standings, three points behind leading CSKA and just one step away from the current champion Zenit.

About the opponent

The next opponent of the white-and-blues – WFC "Yenisey" – was founded back in 1987 on the basis of the Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical Institute under the name "Metodika". It then changed its name several times – it was called "Sibiryachka" (1989, 2010), "Sibiryachka-Energiya" (2002), "Sibiryachka-KGPU" (2009), and in 2008 it was even renamed to "Lokomotiv" (2008). Finally, in 2011, like many other Krasnoyarsk sports teams, it received the classic name "Yenisey" and settled on that.

The Siberian team also has significant victories. Among Yenisey's achievements is the won USSR Cup (1991) – the only cup trophy in women's football played at the twilight of Soviet history, as well as the bronze medals of the Russian Championship (1995).

Since 2017, WFC "Yenisey" has been playing in the Super League – the top division of Russian women's football. An astonishing fact: starting from the first season in the top league in 2017 and onwards, the Krasnoyarsk team has consistently finished in 7th place for 6 years in a row, regardless of the championship format and the number of its participants.

Only in the last season, the Krasnoyarsk team finished the preliminary stage in 10th place out of 12, and remained in the same position after the final stage among the teams that took 7th-12th places. In total, in the 2023 season, "Yenisey" scored points in 11 matches out of 27: 7 wins and 4 draws. The team also had a modest number of goals: 20 scored against 39 conceded. In the Russian Cup, Krasnoyarsk demolished "Novosibirsk" away (6:1) in the 1/8 finals, but in the quarterfinals, they lost without a chance to the future finalist "Zenit" (0:4).

This season, the team under the leadership of the 35-year-old head coach Evgeny Portnov started quite well: in the first two matches, they drew with "Zvezda-2005" (0:0) and defeated "Rubin" (3:1), but then a series of defeats without scoring any goals began: CSKA (0:5), "Spartak" (0:2), "Rostov" (0:1)... Moreover, the Krasnoyarsk team played 4 out of 5 matches at the start of the season at home in their indoor football arena, but as the results show, this did not help much. And in the upcoming match with "Dynamo", "Yenisey" will play at home again.

Last year, right here in Krasnoyarsk, the white-and-blues achieved their first historic victory at the highest level. It was also there that another historic event took place – the first goal of "Dynamo" in the Super League. It was scored by the American forward Kaylan Williams.
