Team status

Sergey Lavrentyev's team played their previous match against Lokomotiv at the RZD Arena. For the white-blues, this was the first meeting in history at a stadium of this level and already the third with the railway workers this season. In the first round match of the Super League, the Dynamo team won a big victory in Novogorsk (3:0), and in the 1/4 finals of the Winline Cup of Russia, they lost there in Novogorsk (1:2).

The new game, now at the stadium in Cherkizovo, was almost a copy of the cup match, both in terms of the result and the authors of the goals scored.

The Dynamo coaching staff continued to surprise with the starting lineup for the game. This time, the coaching staff of the white-blues decided to play three central defenders: Yulia Bessolova, Jose-Diana Pamen Tchato and Tanya Malesia were in the starting lineup. On the flanks in defense are Maria Galay and Kamilla Abashilova, and the attacking line was made up of Komissarova - Shesterneva - Mustafayeva - Williams.

It is not surprising that the hosts of the RZD Arena dominated the beginning of the match. Already in the 13th minute, Lokomotiv midfielder Emmanuelle Favor sent such a beautiful parachute into Diana Ponomareva's goal that it reminded one of the best matches of the men's Lokomotiv at the same stadium. The beginning was discouraging for the white-blues.

It took our girls 15 minutes to collect their thoughts and finally organize something dangerous in the attack. Amazingly, almost the first moment in the game could have brought them success. The ball after the throw-in by Lokomotiv goalkeeper Angelina Gayer was picked up by Elena Shesterneva, who, without thinking twice, fired her signature cannon - the hosts were saved by the crossbar!

The Railwaywomen, having perked up after such a bold attack from the guests, began to escalate again on the Dynamo half. For the time being, the Dynamo players were fighting off the attacks of the hosts, until (alas!) they started making mistakes themselves. A few minutes before the whistle for the break, Elena Chubrilo scored again, having scored twice in the quarterfinal match of the Winline Cup of Russia just two weeks before that match. But this time the Serbian took advantage of the careless actions of the Dynamo captain Yulia Bessolova, which, of course, was doubly offensive. Dynamo began the second half with a double substitution: Milena Nikitina and Tijana Matic came on instead of Malesia and Mustafayeva. However, our team did not become more aggressive in attack due to these substitutions, unlike their opponents. But Lokomotiv, thanks to the efforts of the same Chubrilo, achieved their goal: in the 78th minute, another failure of the Dynamo defense ended with the Serbian going one-on-one. She left no chance for Ponomareva and scored the fourth goal against Dynamo in two matches.

As in the previous cup match, Sergey Lavrentyev's team managed to score one goal at the end - this time, Maria Galai scored after a great pass from Matic, but this goal could not have much impact on the outcome of the match.

The 1:3 defeat in the historic match at the RZD Arena was not only the fourth in a row in all tournaments for Dynamo, but also complicated the white-blues' fight for third place and bronze medals of the championship. The gap from the third line, which is currently occupied by Lokomotiv, is already 8 points.

Of course, it is important to note the fact that the meeting at the RZD Arena took place, it is scary to say when – on August 17. Due to the elimination from the Winline Russian Cup and the absence of the 18th round, our team had a break in games lasting almost a month. On the other hand, numerous injured Dynamo players were given time for a calm recovery.

The white-blues returned to work on August 26, having undergone a scheduled medical examination before resuming the training process and matches in the Super League.

About the opponent

On Saturday, the white-blues will play away against Krylia Sovetov Samara. The Volga club came to the Super League at the same time as Dynamo - like the white-blues, the 2023 season was its first in the top division of the Russian Women's Football Championship.

It is interesting that the previous season, in 2022, was also the debut for the Samara and Moscow football players - only in the Youth League. Both teams won a place in the top three: the white-blues fought for the championship until the very end, but ultimately finished second, and Samara took bronze. So far, for both teams, these medals remain the main achievement in the club's history.

And if Dynamo players at the highest level have been claiming high places for the second year in a row, then the same cannot be said about the Samara club. The last, debut, season in the Super League was a real failure for the Volga team. The young team of Alexander Tsygankov became the worst team in the championship with a margin: only one win in 27 games, 4 draws, 22 defeats, the worst goal difference in the league 7-88, the last place in the table with a 5-point gap from the nearest rival... The bitter pill for Samara fans was slightly sweetened by the performance in the Russian Cup - there, Krylia defeated Pari NN in the 1/16 (3:0), and in the 1/8 with a minimal score lost to Rostov (0:1).

All this, of course, became the reason for radical changes in the team at the end of such an unsuccessful season. Thus, Alexander Tsygankov was replaced as head coach by Vasily Marunyak, who had previously headed the women's Chertanovo, and the team was replenished with newcomers, including the first legionnaires from abroad in the history of the club. The Samara club invited three Brazilians at once this offseason in an attempt to seriously strengthen its attack line.

It is difficult to say whether the rescue plan worked. For example, at the start of the 2024 season, the Volga team lost three matches in a row, conceding 13 and scoring only one goal! And if the defeat from CSKA (0:5) away in the very first round was easily predictable, then the home defeats from the not-so-great Krasnodar (0:2) and the season debutant Spartak (1:6!) are difficult to explain by any objective reasons. Then followed three more defeats, generally also expected: from Dynamo (1:3), Lokomotiv (0:4) and Zenit (0:2).

And only in the 7th game of the season, the Volga team was able to score their first points, playing a 1:1 draw at home with Yenisei. Then followed another draw (away with Chertanovo - 1:1), a victory in the 1/16 Winline Russian Cup over St. Petersburg's Zvezda (the first this season!) and... the resignation of Vasily Marunyak as the team's head coach. The new coach of the WFC Krylia Sovetov was Alexander Mikhnovets, who had previously worked as the head coach of the women's team Minsk.

The coaching staff at the Samara club changed on June 13, and on the 15th, Krylia finally won their first victory in the Super League this season! At home, they beat Ryazan-VDV with a minimal score. The arrival of a new coach literally breathed life into the drooping Krylia – the team under Mikhnovets’ leadership produced its best series at the highest level: in the Super League – victories over Ryazan-VDV (1:0) and Rostov (1:0), draws with Zvezda-2005 (1:1) and CSKA (0:0!), plus a victory in the 1/8 Winline Russian Cup over Rostov (0:0, 4:1 on penalties). Total: in less than a month – 3 wins, 2 draws, goal difference 3-1.

But, fortunately for Dynamo, the euphoria from the changes on the coaching bridge in Krylia seems to have waned. For 6 matches in a row, Krylia have not tasted victory: two defeats and three draws in the Super League, a major defeat from CSKA (0:3) in the quarterfinals and elimination from the Cup, but most importantly - not a single goal scored in these games!

It is clear that Krylia will hardly fight for any high places in the championship, or even just for a place in the upper half of the table, but they have already accomplished their main task for this season - they got rid of the status of the main outsider of the league, which they earned last year.

And the Samara team is quite capable of slowing down Dynamo on the way to these high places.
