Team status

In the previous round, Sergei Lavrentiev’s team, although they played a capital derby in Novogorsk, hosted one of the unexpected outsiders of the season – ZhFK Chertanovo. The team led by the silver medalist of the 2023 Youth League Alexey Tarasyuk did not win a single victory before the meeting with Dynamo, scored 3 points and was located just above Rubin and Krylya Sovetov, so far the worst teams in the championship.

However, this did not stop Chertanovka from showing their best football of the season against Sergei Lavrentiev’s team, which before this meeting had won 5 victories in 5 matches and conceded only one goal. Reconnaissance by both teams took up almost half of the first half, and then the guests of Novogorsk took the floor. In the 30th minute, the young star of Chertanovo and already of the Russian national team, Yana Svistunova, moved to the center with the ball and struck, it would seem, not the strongest and most difficult blow. Dynamo goalkeeper Diana Ponomareva was preparing to calmly take the ball, but he had other plans - at the last moment it slipped under our goalkeeper and rolled into the goal - 0:1. Before the break, Dynamo tried to win back and return parity in the score, but due to the extra haste at the final stage, they were unable to bring the matter to fruition.

But I managed to do it immediately after returning to the field from the locker rooms. So much so that the debate about who actually scored Dynamo’s goal still does not subside! First, Elena Shesterneva delivered a crushing blow to Varvara Dudorova’s goal from the center of the field (!). The ball dropped from the crossbar either to the goal line or beyond it and jumped into the field. Immediately Kaylan Williams rushed to finish the ball and still sent the ball into an empty corner! Judge for yourself who scored this crazy goal - you can watch it at this link.

Literally five minutes after that, the goal could have been repeated one on one - Shesterneva discharged her cannon again, the ball hit the crossbar again and again fell somewhere on the Chertanovo goal line. But, unlike the previous episode, this time none of the Dynamo players had time to finish...

Chertanov’s players also had their own crossbar - in the 70th minute, the ball from a free kick hit the woodwork of Diana Ponomareva’s goal, but safely left the field after a ricochet. Moreover, in the 75th minute of the meeting, Chertanovka again took the lead: substitute Arina Akatieva sent the ball into the Dynamo goal, however, a second later the guests were offside by the referees led by Anastasia Varfolomeeva and the goal was canceled to the relief of all Dynamo fans .

The meeting eventually ended in a 1:1 draw, fraying the nerves of its spectators more than once. And here, of course, it’s worth admitting: the match in Novogorsk turned out to be very amplitude, and not the best performed by Dynamo. Sergei Lavrentyev's team lost a lot of strength and, most importantly, points, their first this season.

Assistant head coach of Dynamo Football Club Taras Pavlyukevich also recognized the chances of both teams to win this match:

— “Chertanovo” is a very good opponent, from whom we expected combination play. And so it happened, we were ready for it.

It was a double-edged game, both teams had a chance to win. In the end we fell a little short, but we move on and continue to fight for the championship.

One of the brightest football players of the meeting, forward Elena Shesterneva, noted the difficult nature of the game and wished her team more composure in realizing scoring chances:

— The match didn’t turn out the way we wanted. And we wanted to win, naturally. But the whole struggle is still ahead, the season has just begun. We will correct the mistakes we made in this game.

Of course, we need to add a little composure up front, because we created a lot of chances but couldn’t convert them. You need to keep a cool head and be more responsible about the moments that exist.

I want to thank the girls for a good game. We went into the second half with the right attitude, I think we completely outplayed Chertanovo, just a little short of being able to put the pressure on them.

However, one can only agree with the blue and white forward: the whole struggle of the season is still ahead. This is also evidenced by the Super League standings after 6-7 matches played so far: three teams at once, Zenit, Dynamo and Lokomotiv, scored 16 points each and share 2-4 places, and the leader is still CSKA, which broke away from the group of pursuers by 5 points.

About the opponent

The next opponent of the blue and white, ZhFK Ryazan-VDV, is one of the old-timers of Russian women's football: it appeared back in 1996, and has been playing in the Major League since 2005. During this time, the team changed several names: “Marseille” (1996), “VDV” (1997-1999), “Ryazan-TNK” (2000-2004), “Ryazan-VDV” (since 2005).

The Ryazan club is also one of the most titled in our football. Among his achievements: 4 championship titles (1999, 2000, 2013, 2018), two Russian Cups (1998, 2014), 1/4 finals of the UEFA Cup (2001/02), 1/16 finals of the Champions League (2014/15, 2018 /19, 2019/20). And this is not counting the scattering of silver (2017) and bronze (1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2012/13, 2014, 2016) medals of the Russian Championship, 6 appearances in the final of the Russian Cup (1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2018, 2019 ).

True, in recent years the “paratroopers” cannot boast of great successes. For five seasons in a row, the Ryazan club has not been able to get into the top three winners of the Russian championship. Moreover, after the 2020 season, when the Ryazan team took 4th place in the first season of Superlily, they do not even make it into the top 5 best teams: 2021 - 6th place, 2022 - 10th (the worst result in the history of Ryazan -VDV"), 2023 – final 6th place based on the results of the final stage 1-6.

The results of the “paratroopers” also dropped in the Russian Cup. After two consecutive tournament finals in 2018-2019, the Ryazan team performs worse and worse in the country’s second most important tournament: 1/2 finals (2020, 2021) – 1/4 finals (2022) – 1/8 finals (2023).

Ryazan-VDV is conducting this season under the guidance of an experienced head coach Natalya Karaseva, who for three seasons worked with another Super League team, ZhFK Rostov. It is interesting that this off-season “Ryazan-VDV” and “Rostov” exchanged coaches: Ryazan’s coach Igor Gavrilin went from Ryazan to Rostov-on-Don, and ex-head coach of the Rostov team Natalya Karaseva went in the opposite direction.

The start of the new season for the Ryazan team cannot yet be called either successful or any kind of breakthrough. The team won only two victories in 6 matches - over Rubin Kazan (4:0) and the very same Rostov (2:1), with which they exchanged coaches. At the same time, the Ryazan team lost to Zvezda 2005, Krasnodar and CSKA (0:3), and tied with Chertanovo (1:1), which has also not yet shown great results. As a result - 7 points scored and 8th place in the standings with a goal difference of 8-8.

But Ryazan-VDV also has good news this season. Firstly, the team has finally returned to its home stadium “Spartak” in Ryazan and is now playing truly home matches. Last season, the Ryazan girls were forced to play at the Znamya Truda stadium in Orekhovo-Zuevo, where our girls played on the second try in August 2023.

Secondly, the main force of the Ryazan attack, forward Elena Zubkova, continues her scoring feats. If last season the Ryazan-VDV forward scored 8 goals and made one assist in 24 Super League matches, then this season she already at the start fulfilled half the norm for the entire previous season - 4 goals + 1 assist in 6 matches. For comparison, the best player in Dynamo in terms of goals + assists this season, Kaylan Williams, has 3 goals and one assist in the same 6 games. On the other hand, the American has 3 goals in 3 matches with the Paratroopers.

However, in the blue and white team there is another super threat to the Ryazan goal - Elena Shesterneva has 6 goals (two hat-tricks!) in three matches against Ryazan-VDV. I wonder how many goals these girls will eventually score between the three of them?
