Maria, a graduate of Siberian football, began playing football at the Sports and Youth Sports School of the Republican Center for Physical Education "Irtysh" in the city of Omsk, where from the age of 13 she trained under the guidance of her first coach Evgenia Ivanova. At the same time, she played not only big-time football, but also showed her talent in mini-football. She repeatedly won the Ural and Western Siberia Cup in mini-football, became the champion of the interregional associations of the Urals and Western Siberia, and the silver medalist of the Eurasian Cup. In 2009, she achieved her first great success - as part of the Omsk Irtysh, she won bronze medals at the Russian Championship in the first division.
Maria made her debut in the top league of Russian women's football back in 2012 - as part of the Perm Zvezda-2005. Over 7 seasons as a member of the Ural club, Galai became a 3-time champion of Russia (2014, 2015, 2017), won the Russian Cup three times (2013, 2015, 2016), became a silver (2013, 2016) and bronze (2018) medalist in the major league championship Russia.
In 2019-2020, the Russian played in Belarus - for the capital's WFC Minsk, where she also achieved great success. In her first season for the new club, Galai won the championship, Cup and Super Cup of Belarus, in the second - again the Super Cup, became vice-champion and finalist of the national Cup.
In the 2021 season, Maria returned to Russia and moved to Lokomotiv Moscow, with whom she again became the champion of the Super League (2021) and twice won the Russian Super Cup (2021, 2022), in the 2022 and 2023 seasons she added two more bronze medals to her awards Russian Championship.

Maria Galai has experience playing for the Russian national teams: youth U-19, student and national. As a member of the Russian student team, the football player won a bronze medal at the 2017 Summer Universiade (Taipei, Taiwan). She made her debut for the Russian national team on November 23, 2017 in a friendly match with the Belgium national team (1:1). On April 5, 2018, she scored her first and so far only goal for the country’s main team, scoring in the 2019 World Cup qualifying match against the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina (6:1).
