A graduate of the Chertanovo Sports Club, she made her debut for the capital team in June 2015 at the age of 16, coming on as a substitute during the break of the match against Ryazan-VDV. And already in November of the same year, she played her first match in the starting lineup of Chertanovo, playing to zero.
In total, Ponomareva played 92 matches for Chertanovo, conceding 147 goals. As part of the Muscovites, Diana reached the final of the 2017 Russian Cup and won silver medals at the Russian Championship in 2018, and also became a bronze medalist in the First League - Russian Football Championship among women's teams in 2016.
In the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons, she took part in all official matches of her team. In the 2022 season, the goalkeeper played 25 matches in the Super League and the Russian Cup, in which she conceded 40 goals and received one yellow card, and Chertanovo finished the season in 5th place. At the end of the season, Ponomareva was recognized as the best player of the Chertanovo Sports Club.

Diana Ponomareva also played for the junior (under 17 years old) and youth (under 19 years old) Russian national teams: 10 matches, 15 goals conceded. In 2022, the goalkeeper was called up to the national team for the first time under the leadership of Yuri Krasnozhan, for which she immediately made her debut - she played two friendly matches against the national teams of Belarus (2:2) and Serbia (0:1), in which she missed only once.
